Tincs 1978-1986
Between 1978 and 1986 John worked on a series of paintings developed from his interest in reflective surfaces.
The Tincs presented a minimal subject matter - the individual Tin Can, in its most basic form of reflective cylinder - that dealt in the end with qualities of llight and colour, which became transposed into a meditative iconography.
The balance between realism and abstraction in these paintings of a Tin Can came to represent the tenously nervous connection between the physical and spiriual in human consciousness.
